Publication describes new safety assessment tool

Dr. Ly Ly Pham is the lead author of a new article that can aid researchers in profiling and integrating chemical information from a variety of data streams. The publication, in Food and Chemical Toxicology, demonstrates the use of new-approach methods (NAMs) for safety assessment by surveying 58 cosmetic-relevant chemicals in both ToxCast and ToxRefDB. Using high-throughput toxicokinetic data for 17 of the 58 chemicals, the authors show that the calculated administered equivalent doses (AEDs) from ToxCast can serve as conservative estimates of systemic lowest-effect levels (LELs) observed in in vivo assays. This work suggests that bioactivity observed using NAMs may inform a conservative point of departure for in vivo data.
