Ioana Petrisor is a Senior Scientist with ToxStrategies, Inc., based in San Diego, California. She is a biochemist with 24 years of experience specializing in environmental forensics and litigation support. Dr. Petrisor has helped both domestic and international clients to recover costs in complex cases involving multiple contaminants and releases in time and space, playing a key role in strategy development. She has applied a variety of forensic methods (including chemical and isotopic fingerprinting, historical document and aerial photograph review, mineralogical fingerprinting, and tree-ring fingerprinting) to track the source of and age-date environmental contaminants (e.g., crude oil and petroleum products, chlorinated solvents, metals, PCBs, perchlorate, nutrients). Dr. Petrisor has served as an expert witness in California courts to testify on fate and transport, as well as sources and ages of environmental contamination, including chlorinated solvents and metals.
Dr. Petrisor is the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Environmental Forensics and the author of the recently published textbook, Environmental Forensics Fundamentals — A Practical Guide. Her publication experience also includes more than seventy research and review articles, six book chapters, and an invention patent. Dr. Petrisor is a regularly invited keynote speaker at national and international meetings, has taught both on-line and in-class workshops and courses, and has conducted innovative research for U.S. DOE, U.S. DOD, and the European Community on environmental characterization, risk assessment, and development of innovative remedial technologies for soil, sediments, and water.
