Job Summary: The Research Librarian and Information Specialist Role will be responsible for facilitating literature searches, managing reference materials, and supporting various project functions. This involves designing and implementing literature search processes, managing citation files, and assisting with report and manuscript development. The Research Librarian will also be responsible for maintaining research-facilitation software and tools, providing training, and ensuring efficient information management across the firm. The ideal candidate will have expertise in biological and/or toxicological sciences. This position will be based in our Asheville, NC office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Literature Searches & Processes:
- Facilitate literature searches and help design, implement, and quality control literature search processes, including documentation and questionnaire development
- Develop literature prioritization strategies, including the use of AI techniques
- Track recent publications and provide literature updates for ongoing projects
- Reference & Citation Management:
- Organize and manage reference materials such as citation files and EndNote libraries, ensuring regular updates and de-duplication.
- Generate visualizations based on review results and citation metadata
- Obtain peer review full texts at request of technical staff
- Manage internal library and document database
- Software Management
- Manage information management software licenses (e.g., DistillerSR, SysRev)
- Create accounts for and onboard new employees
- Develop data collection forms based on project needs
- Develop and conduct training sessions and demos for new staff on tools and methods
- Report & Manuscript Development:
- Coordinate submission to journals
- Investigate and maintain copyright permissions
- Perform reference quality control
- Information Sciences & SOP Development:
- Manage firm-wide information sciences tasks, including creating and updating literature search process SOPs and managing various databases.
- Administer and maintain the institutional knowledge base.
- Administer monthly information sciences meetings, including scheduling and agenda development.
Essential Qualifications:
- Educational Background: B.S. or M.S. in biology, toxicology, or related science
- The ideal candidate has 2-4 years experience in a consulting or research library setting
- Previous experience in a librarian or information specialist role including:
- Experience developing literature searches and managing reference data
- An understanding of systematic methodologies (e.g., systematic review) and related frameworks
- Implementing AI solutions to literature reviews
- Familiarity with DistillerSR and/or other systematic review software
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with various departments and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Experience with the following software: Microsoft Excel, R or RStudio, Tableau, Endnote, DistillerSR
