Senior Accountant

Location: Remote/In-Office (Katy, TX or Houston, TX)/Hybrid

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to join our Finance team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three (3) years of accounting experience with a mid-size or large organization and have or be in process of obtaining a CPA license. This individual will be an integral member of the Accounting and Finance team and involved in the growth and implementation of its policies, procedures, and processes.

Reporting Relationship

Work is performed under the direction of the Controller.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Assist with general accounting functions (general ledgers and related books, budget preparation and control, cost accounting, payables and receivables, and financial statement preparation and analysis); and data processing (computerized management information systems)
  • Aid the Controller with the maintenance and enhancement of the Firm’s accounting system;
  • Support the Controller in the completion of the annual financial statement audit
  • Monitor the company’s compliance with all accounting policies and procedures as well as internal accounting controls ;
  • Assist the Controller with maintaining and evolving a system of internal accounting controls to provide assurance that the company’s assets are safeguarded, and transactions are executed in accordance with management’s authorization and are recorded properly for the preparation of financial statements;
  • Assist in the annual budget process by attending meetings with senior branch executives, updating changes to the budget model, and providing ad-hoc assistance to the Controller during the planning process.
  • Timely preparation of ad-hoc, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in such form as will provide company management with the means to measure actual versus planned results;
  • Leverage NetSuite reports to provide end users with timely information and financial results
  • Collaborate with the Controller & CFO to implement a scalable business intelligence platform
  • Identify and report financial and control variances to the Controller for corrective planning and action
  • Within established policy, initiate disbursements for payrolls and the purchases of goods and services; make proper accounting distribution thereof;
  • Assist with the preparation and filing of all income, payroll, property, and sales tax returns (when applicable) and reports required by regulatory agencies; initiate timely payments of all taxes due to local, state, and federal governments;
  • Act as liaison with external auditors regarding financial reporting, including the preparation of reports and analysis as required from time to time;
  • Support on special assignments when requested;
  • Mentor and support the Firm’s Accounting Clerks/Associates; review deliverables as requested by Controller

Qualifications

Education and Experience
There is a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in finance and/or accounting and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in finance and accounting. Knowledge of GAAP and general finance and accounting procedures as well as project accounting and financial statement preparation and analysis.  Ability to efficiently and effectively manage individual workload.  Experience utilizing a fully integrated enterprise accounting software application in a multi-company, multi-currency environment.
Communication Skills
Ability to read and comprehend complex accounting/finance technical documents and regulations, instructions, correspondence, memos and financial statements.  Ability to write complex correspondence and memos.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to senior executives, practice leaders and external clients.
