ToxStrategies food defense expert Dr. Jennifer van de Ligt and co-author Ned Mitenius have written chapters on food defense that are included in two recently published books on the broad topic of food safety. Elsevier’s Academic Press book, Food Safety Management: A Practical Guide for the Food Industry, includes the authors’ chapter titled, “Food Defense.” Woodhead Publishing (another imprint of Elsevier) published Hygienic Design of Food Factories, with the chapter, “Food Factory Design to Prevent Deliberate Product Adulteration.” The chapters discuss the importance of food defense as a critical aspect of overall food safety and offer practical advice for understanding and complying with food defense regulations.
Dr. van de Ligt, previously director of the Homeland Security Center of Excellence, focused on food defense, has been instrumental in developing ToxStrategies’ capabilities in food defense consulting, including securing an exclusive license with the University of Minnesota’s Food Protection and Defense Institute to offer Intentional Adulteration Rule Food Defense Plan Essentials, which provides the training necessary to become a Food Defense Qualified Individual as required by the Intentional Adulteration Rule under the Food Safety Modernization Act.
