In April 2017, ToxStrategies scientists, along with a team of multidisciplinary experts, published a novel systematic review on the potential adverse health effects associated with caffeine consumption in healthy adults, pregnant women, adolescents, and children. This comprehensive assessment included evaluation of cardiovascular, behavioral, reproductive & developmental, bone & calcium, and acute effects. When the total body of evidence was evaluated, and when study quality, consistency, level of adversity, and magnitude of response were considered, the evidence generally supported that consumption of up to 400 mg caffeine/day in healthy adults is not associated with overt adverse effects.
