Excerpt: Violanti reports a 9-fold increase in the risk for fatal traffic accidents among Oklahoma drivers who were using cellular telephones at the time of a motor vehicle accident (Violanti, 1998). We have performed a similar analysis using a different state’s accident database, and would like to point out several methodological problems that raise concerns about Violanti’s results.
